 Art Glass Courses - Fun - exciting & rewarding      (updated in March 2010)

With a little know how - you can create Fantastic Fused Glass, Authentic Leadlight windows, Striking Copper Foil Suncatchers,  Elegant Tiffany Lamps & Jewellery Boxes, Magical  Mosaic Mirrors or Stepping Stones for a touch of garden art plus much, much more.

The Team at Leadlight Products are very passionate and knowledgable about glass. So whether you have always wanted to try Glass Fusing or make your own Leadlight Window maybe you are curious about Glass Mosaics, the tutoring staff at Leadlight Products will guide you to success.

Course Format: 2 hour evening classes on Wednesdays 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshops on scheduled Saturdays as listed in our hobby course time table. We run our evening classes with rolling start dates - you choose your start date and your course schedule begins.(classes missed cannot be added onto the end of your course) Each course requires different number of classes so refer to the individual course outline below for more information.

Course Time Table 2010;   (bookings essential)

Evening classes - Wednesday 6.30pm-8.30pm with rolling starts.   Weekend workshops - Saturdays - morning sessions 8.30am - 12.30pm, afternoon session 1.30pm - 5.30pm

Course Schedule;

Glass Cutting Introduction   (code # C-GCI)

Duration: 2 hours
Times: 1 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $20.00  
What will I learn?
Course Outline - Glass cutting introduction will teach you the basics required for successful glass cutting. Straight lines, shapes and curves you will be taught how to score and break the glass correctly, what tools to use and the different methods of shape cutting.

Fused Glass Jewellery - Level 1   (code # C-FGJ)

Duration: 4 hours
Times: 2 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $125.00  Note; Your course fee includes a selection of materials and the kiln firing charge.

What will I make?
Upon completion of this course it is possible to have made up to 4 stunning pendants and two pair of beautiful earrings of your design. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the individual)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - Our fused glass jewellery course is a fun entry level course for those of you wishing to learn the basics of glass fusing. In this class a varied selection of materials including some Dichroic Glass will be supplied with extra products available from our shop during class. You will be taught the principals of glass fusing, the different C.O.E glass groups, how to lay up your projects, the firing process and finally adding the fittings and findings to complete the course. Because of the course schedule and lengthy firing process all items need to be ready for firing after the first session so fittings can be attached during the following session. (Fittings & hardware are not included)

Prerequisite Learning - No prerequisite is required for this course, however attending our Glass Cutting Introduction course will give you even more creativity with glass shapes.

Fused Glass Jewellery/Coasters - Level 2   (code # C-FGJC)

   

Duration: 4 hours
Times: 2 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $135.00  Note; Your course fee includes a selection of materials and the kiln firing charge.

What will I make?
You have the choice of continuing on with further jewellery or to make a set of 4 cool coasters of your design. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the individual)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - Fused Glass Jewellery/Coaster course is an excellent follow on course from level 1 for those of you wishing to learn more techniques and further develop your skills in hot glass. In this class a selection of materials will be supplied and you can purchase extra glass from our shop prior to or during the course. You will be taught how to lay up your projects ready for firing using many of the exciting hot glass components we have instore. Because of the lengthy firing process all items can be collected a few days after the course completion.(Fittings & hardware are not included)

Prerequisite Learning - You must have completed our Level1 - Fused Glass Jewellery course prior to starting this Level 2 course.

Fused Glass Slumping - Level 3   (code # C-FGS)

      

    

Duration: 6 hours
Times: 3 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop - over 2 days (refer to course time table at top of page) 1st session to lay up your project ready for fusing and the follow Saturday for the slumping set up session - completed items are to be collected 2 weeks following the completion of 2nd session.

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $175.00  Note; Your course fee includes mould hire, fusing and slump firings. All materials required can be purchased from our shop before or during the course.

What will I make?
Your choice of size, style and design from our range of moulds in creating your very own amazing fused glass plate, bowl or platter. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the individual)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - This Fused Glass Slumping course has been designed for those of you wishing to further develop your knowledge in hot glass & the slumping process. As part of this course you choose the size and style of your project, material requirements and costs will vary depending on the project. All materials can be purchase from our shop prior to or during the course. In commencing this course you will use all your skills learnt from level 1 & 2 courses plus learn further advanced techniques in this upper level. Because of the lengthy firing process all items must be completed ready for firing by the end of the 2nd evening or first Saturday then you return the following week to prepare your fused piece to be slumped. completed items are to be collected 2 weeks following the completion of 2nd session.

Prerequisite Learning - You need to have completed our Level 1 & 2 - Fused Glass Jewellery/coaster courses.

Start Up Leadlighting   (code # C-SUL)

      

    

Duration: 10 + 2 hours (Glass Cutting Introduction)
Times: 6 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop -  (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $65.00 + $20.00 (Glass Cutting Introduction Lesson)
Material Costs: $125.00 (approx depending on the individual) All glass and materials can be purchased from our shop during class.

Tools: Studio Tool Hire option $45.00 per course. Purchase full leadlight toolkit at a discounted price of $272.80 - save 20% and receive a FREE tool-tote.

What will I make?
You will complete a simple leadlight panel from our set range of patterns supplied - your choice of glass and colours. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the individual)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - During this course you will complete a leadlight panel from a pattern supplied. You will learn glass selection, basic glass cutting skills, lead came assembly, lead soldering and the cementing-grouting-polishing process. On completion of this course you will be able to continue on with your own project through our "Keep On Leadlighting" course

Prerequisite Learning - No prior training required to enrol in this course.

Keep On Leadlighting   (code # C-KOL)

         

Duration: 10 hours per class (more than one class may be required depending on the project)

Times: 5 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop -  (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $65.00 per class (more than one class may be required depending on the project)

Material Costs: Material costs will vary depending on the choice of project.  All glass and materials can be purchased from our shop during class.

Tools: You are required to have your own tools at this level. Purchase full leadlight toolkit at a discounted price of $272.80 - save 20% and receive a FREE tool-tote.

What will I make?
You will complete a leadlight panel of your own choice. The tutor will help you decide on a pattern that suits your needs and the skill level that you feel comfortable with - your choice of glass and colours. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the individual)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - This course is aimed at further developing the basic skills you have already obtained in "Start Up Leadlighting" . This is now your time to create a window for your home or maybe as that special gift. You will learn pattern construction and design techniques, get the opportunity to expand your knowledge of glass selection, glass cutting techniques, lead assembly and the cementing-grouting-polishing process.

Prerequisite Learning - You must have completed at least one 'Start Up Leadlighting" course.

Mirror Magic with Mosaics  (code # C-MMM)

         

Duration: 10 hours per class (more than one class may be required depending on the project)

Times: 5 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop -  (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $65.00 per class (more than one class may be required depending on the project)

Material Costs: $80.00 - $100.00 (approx) Material costs will vary depending on the choice of project.  All glass and materials can be purchased from our shop during class.

What will I make?
You will complete a Magical Mosaic Mirror of your own choice. The tutor will help you decide on a pattern that suits your needs and the skill level that you feel comfortable with - your choice of glass and colours. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the individual)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - As part of this fun and informative course you will get to transform a blank mirror froame into an individual piece of glass artwork using the direct method of mosaicing. You will learn basic glass cutting skills, glass selection, pattern construction and design techniques, the adhesive process, grouting and grout sealing. You will then be able to advance to the more challenging projects such as tabletops, birdbaths and planters.

Prerequisite Learning - You must have completed our 2 hour "Glass Cutting Introduction" course.

Mosaic Table Art   (code # C-MTA)

Duration: 10 hours per class (more than one class may be required depending on the project)

Times: 5 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop -  (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $P.O.A - includes wrought iron table frame and blank top (choice of toughened glass or solid board top)

Material Costs: $80.00 - $150.00 (approx) Material costs will vary depending on the choice of project.  All glass and materials can be purchased from our shop during class.

Two size options - 600mm Coffee Table or 800mm Patio Table

Tools: Studio Tool Hire option $45.00 per course. Purchase full Glass Mosaic toolkit at a discounted price of $125.90 - save 20% and receive a FREE tool-tote.

What will I make?
You will complete a wrought iron moasic top table of your own choice. The tutor will help you decide on a pattern that suits your needs and the skill level that you feel comfortable with - your choice of glass and colours. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the individual)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - This course is for the keen moasic artist who wishes to create their own piece of beautiful table art. Learn the techniques required to complete a larger project with either the glass on glass method which allows light to flow through your top or the multi coloured opalescent effect on a solid base. Serve coffee or tea with a slice of cake on your own work of art.

Prerequisite Learning - You must have completed our 2 hour "Glass Cutting Introduction" course.

Keep On Mosaics   (code # C-KOM)

        

Duration: 10 hours per class (more than one class may be required depending on the project)

Times: 5 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop -  (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $65.00 per class (more than one class may be required depending on the project)

Material Costs: $80.00 - $150.00 (approx) Material costs will vary depending on the choice of project.  All glass and materials can be purchased from our shop during class.

Tools: Studio Tool Hire option $45.00 per course. Purchase full Glass Mosaic toolkit at a discounted price of $125.90 - save 20% and receive a FREE tool-tote.

What will I make?
Any Mosaic project of your own choice. The tutor will help you decide on a pattern that suits your needs and the skill level that you feel comfortable with - your choice of glass and colours. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the individual)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - This course is for the keen moasic artist who wishes to create their own piece of art - Birdbath - Pot - Planter - Statue or any other solid object you might want to mosaic. Learn the techniques required to complete a larger project with either the glass on glass method which allows light to flow through your top or the multi coloured opalescent effect on a solid base.

Prerequisite Learning - You must have completed our 2 hour "Glass Cutting Introduction" course.

Garden Art - Glass Stepping Stones  (code # C-GSS)

           

Duration: 8 hours per class

Times: 4 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop -  (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $85.00 (Includes mould hire and Diamond Crete fast setting cement)

Material Costs: $45.00 - $65.00 (approx) .  All glass and materials can be purchased from our shop during class.

Tools: Studio Tool Hire option $45.00 per course. Purchase full Glass Mosaic toolkit at a discounted price of $125.90 - save 20% and receive a FREE tool-tote.

What will I make?
You will complete a stepping stone of your own choice. The tutor will help you decide on a pattern that suits your needs and the skill level that you feel comfortable with - your choice of glass and colours. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the individual)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - Garden Art - Glass Stepping Stones are great fun to do with a freind or as a group giving you fabulous creative results fast.Add some colour and flair to your garden all year. Using one of our many different shaped moulds along with "Diamond Crete" fast setting cement you can remove your stepping stone from the mould after only an hour. You will learn the basics of glass cutting, glass selection, pattern construction and design techniques, lay up and assembly plus cement mixture and application.

Prerequisite Learning - There is no prerequisite for this course, however if you have completed our 2 hour "Glass Cutting Introduction" course you will be able to get even more creative with your glass designs.

Copperfoil Suncatchers - level 1 (code # C-CS)

           

Duration: 10  hours (+ 2 hour Glass Cutting Introduction for beginners)

Times: 5 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop -  (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $65.00 + $20.00 (Glass Cutting Introduction Course)

Material Costs: $45.00 - $85.00 (approx) .  All glass and materials can be purchased from our shop during class.

Tools: Studio Tool Hire option $45.00 per course. Purchase full Copperfoil toolkit at a discounted price of $261.00 - save 20% and receive a FREE tool-tote.

What will I make?
You will complete 2 stunning copperfoil suncatchers of your own choice. The tutor will help you decide on a pattern that suits your needs and the skill level that you feel comfortable with - your choice of glass and colours. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the projects choosen and the individual)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - During this course you will get the opportunity to complete 2 or 3 copperfoil suncatchers. Using patterns provided, you will learn glass selection, basic glass cutting skills, copperfoil application and soldering techniques plus the patina/polishing process.

Prerequisite Learning - You will need to have completed our 2 hour "Glass Cutting Introduction" course prior to starting this class.

Copperfoil 6 Sided Lampshade - level 2  (code # C-CL)

           

Duration: 10 hours per class (depending on the project more than 1 class may be required) 

Times: 5 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop -  (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $100.00 per class (10 hours)

Material Costs: $120.00 (approx) . All glass, materials and bases can be purchased from our shop during class.

What will I make?
You will complete a beautiful 6 sided copperfoil lampshade of your own choice to fit a base or as a ceiling shade. The tutor will help you decide on a pattern from our studio selection that suits your needs and the skill level that you feel comfortable with - your choice of glass and colours. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the projects choosen and the individual - lamp bases not included)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - This course is aimed at further developing the basic skills obtained in "Copperfoil Suncatchers". Choosing from one of our 6 elegant designs you will complete your own stained glass lampshade using the tradional techniques of Louis Comfort-Tiffany. You will expand your knowledge of glass selection,  glass cutting techniques, copperfoil application and soldering techniques, the patina/polishing process as well as learning the 3-dimensional assembly methods required to complete a lampshade.

Prerequisite Learning - You must have completed our "Copperfoil Suncatcher" course prior to starting this class.

Copperfoil Tiffany Lampshade - level 3  (code # C-CTL)

           

Duration: 10 hours per class (depending on the project more than 1 class may be required) 

Times: 5 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop -  (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $65.00 per class (10 hours)

Material Costs: $120.00 - 180.00 (approx) . Patterns and moulds are not included in material costings - all glass, materials, patterns and moulds can be purchased from our shop prior to or during class.

What will I make?
You will complete a beautiful "Tiffany"  copperfoil lampshade of your own choice to fit a base or as a ceiling shade. The tutor will help you decide on a pattern from our shop that suits your needs and the skill level that you feel comfortable with - your choice of glass and colours. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the projects choosen and the individual - lamp bases not included)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - If you have dreamed of making your very own Tiffany Lamp then this is the course for you. As with all Tiffany styled shades, the multi pieced design means a great deal of time is required to complete one of these truely magnificent works of Glass Art. Select your pattern and matching mould from our shop and begin your journey of personal accomplishment. You will complete your own stained glass lampshade using the tradional techniques of the founder Louis Comfort-Tiffany. Combine all the skills you have aquired in the lower level coures and create a statement of who you are.

Prerequisite Learning - You must have completed our "Copperfoil Suncatcher" & Level 2 "Lampshade" courses prior to starting this class.

Keep On Copperfoiling  (code # C-KOC)

   

Duration: 10  hours per class (depending on the project more than 1 class may be required) 

Times: 5 x evening 6.30pm - 8.30pm or weekend workshop -  (refer to course time table at top of page)

How much will it cost?
Course Fee: $65.00 per class (depending on the project more than 1 class may be required) 

Material Costs: $65.00 - $85.00 (approx depending on the project). All glass and materials can be purchased from our shop during class.

What will I make?
Any other special copperfoil project of your own choice. The tutor will help you decide on a pattern that suits your needs and the skill level that you feel comfortable with - your choice of glass and colours. (items completed during this course may vary depending on the projects choosen and the individual)
What will I learn?
Course Outline - During this course you will get the opportunity to complete a copperfoil project of your choice. Using patterns provided or your own design, you will use all the kills obtained in previous classes for glass selection,  glass cutting skills, copperfoil application and soldering techniques plus the patina/polishing process.

Prerequisite Learning - You will need to have completed at least our "Glass Cutting Introduction" course & "Copperfoil Suncatchers" prior to starting this class.
